About the Scholarship

The Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care has established the Mental Health Nursing, Allied Health, and Psychology Scholarships Program. The program offers a variety of scholarships for psychologists, allied health professionals, and mental health nurses to pursue courses in disciplines relevant to mental health.

For allied health professionals working in or planning to work in the mental health field in 2023, the Allied Health Continuing Professional Development (CPD) scholarship will pay up to $1,500 to attend a short course, conference, or workshop. Priority will be given to applicants who are Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander for 5% of the scholarships.

Benefits of the Scholarship

The scholarships provide up to $1,500 in money. The money provided for scholarships should be viewed as a contribution or subsidy toward the overall cost of the conference, workshop, or course.

Funding can go towards the following areas:

  • course fees/registration fees
  • travel costs
  • accommodation costs
  • textbooks.

These sums are viewed as a contribution to the recipient’s out-of-pocket expenses for their activity. It is anticipated that the recipient will cover a portion of the expenses on their own.

Scholarship Eligibility

To be considered for this scholarship, applicants:

  • must be a citizen of Australia or a long-term resident of that country
  • are certified allied health professionals (including psychologists) who are either entitled to register with their professional body or who are registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.
  • works in the field of mental health, which encompasses elderly care, general care, community care, psychiatric hospitals, and mental health facilities.
  • must be taking a course at the level that starts in 2023 or is currently being offered:
  • Short course
  • Conferences

All courses must be relevant to the applicants work in the mental health sector and enhance expertise in mental health and suicide prevention.
